Mary Ellen Stone

Executive Director of King County Sexual Assault Resource Center

Mary Ellen Stone has served as Executive Director of King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC), since 1979.

Ms. Stone has played an active role in changing the nature of sexual assault prevention, education and victim response in Washington State. Through innovative programs that she helped plan and implement, Stone has changed the way citizens of Washington state view sexual assault and rape.

Under her leadership, KCSARC has become one of the country’s leading resources for sexual assault victims, their families, professionals and the community. KCSARC is widely recognized for innovation in the field of sexual assault direct services and prevention programming.

Ms. Stone is a leader in the non-profit sector. Present board and commission membership includes Sex Offender Policy Board, Sentencing Guidelines Commission, Mental Illness Drug Dependency Oversight Committee, Seattle Archdiocese Review Committee, South King Council of Human Services Board, Sentencing Guidelines Commission Legislative Committee, and Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.

Recent Awards and Recognition include  Women Leaders Award, ACT Theatre/YWCA 2007, Woman of Inspiration, Seattle Storm 2006, Moving Mountains Award: Office of Crime Victim’s Advocacy 2004 and Founding Mother: Women’s Funding Alliance 2003
